I’ve lived in several areas of the Triangle (Cary, “Inside the Beltline” Raleigh, Durham, North Raleigh) since I was 10 years old, so I consider myself a Raleigh/Cary native. I went to elementary and middle school in Cary, then moved to Raleigh during my High School years. I attended NCSU, then started a high-end furniture manufacturing company called Kingston – Hull Mfg. and spent many late nights for 7 years, designing and producing fine mahogany pencil post beds, dining room tables, Chippendale mirrors, bookshelves, and other fine furnishings, as we established over 120 retail accounts (not counting designers) throughout NC, SC, and VA.
I sold out my partnership and got my General Contractor License and Real Estate License in the mid 1990’s. My design background proved helpful in planning and performing numerous remodel projects, so I thought contracting was going to be my profession. Having a dad who is a retired nuclear engineer with Progress Energy (CP&L), who built and renovated his own homes and business and a mom who is retired as professional designer/retailer, always providing projects for us, I found myself in many creative projects over my life, and often with a hammer, saw or a brick in my hand. I’ve always enjoyed planning my own projects over the decades and have remodeled many homes and have a good sense of quality, whether it’s design or construction…but I found something I enjoyed more than construction! Real estate! I felt real estate was a natural fit for my skills and during my time as real estate broker I’ve earned many challenging top-producing awards and recognitions. During my time as a broker, I’ve met some incredible people, and made many lifetime friends.
As a real estate professional and a 20 year RE/MAX associate, I’ve managed to earn the rare Platinum Level awards several years in a row, while obtaining RE/MAX “Hall of Fame” status before joining eXp Realty.
I have a loving wife Carol and two wonderful children…Tyler and Jessica.
I enjoy traveling, boating, sports, reading history, political discussions and playing the drums. Most importantly, I enjoy watching my son and daughter grow and blossom.
Most of my business comes from referrals. I am a customer driven Realtor® dedicated to achieving results and providing exceptional service. If you’re in the market to buy or sell a home, let be put my passion and many years of real estate expertise to work for you!

Dan is a proud member of the Phillip Johnson Group of eXp Realty and has been involved in real estate in the Raleigh, Wake County, and surrounding counties for 25 years. He has been a member of the RE/MAX International 100% club for many years along with attaining the ABR designation (Accredited Buyer Representative).
Career and Educational Experiences- I attended Mars Hill University located in western North Carolina, just north of Asheville, NC, while also playing football, ran track and field and received most valuable accolades in both sports. After College I served in the US Army Reserves for seven years while living and working in the Asheville area, then attended Western Carolina University (part time) where I attained a Master’s Degree in Education with an Administrative Certificate. I then became a teacher for the Buncombe County Schools.
My education career took a major turn when I was hired to become Headmaster of Trident Academy. Trident is a boarding school for children with specific learning disabilities (attention deficit disorder, dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc), grades 1 through 12. Trident Academy is located in Mt. Pleasant South Carolina (a suburb of Charleston SC.). I spent 15 years there. During my time there the school became accredited (after much hard work) with the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges. Trident Academy had boarding students from over 30 states. The school had a very competitive athletic program as well.
My wife Brenda Balcome (a school teacher) then decided to move to Raleigh, NC where Brenda’s parents, brothers, and sister lived. After some investigation and exploring the business landscape in Raleigh, Brenda and me decided to become real estate agents instead of staying in education.
Our first stop was with Simpson and Underwood and we immediately found that real estate was a good profession for us. Other family members took notice and several of them are now in the real estate profession as well. I soon left Simpson and Underwood and landed at Re/Max United where I achieved 100 % Club status and became a multi-million producer in volume on a regular basis. I decided to join the Phillip Johnson Group with eXp Realty recently (Phillip is my brother in law). Phillip has taken full advantage of the professional standards and nationwide presence (as well as international presence) to attract the many clients who are moving into the Triangle Area. With my past clients and what Phillip is doing to capture additional buyers, I think I make a perfect fit for the Phillip Johnson Group.
Brenda and I have raised five children, and we’re extremely proud of their accomplishments. Lastly but not least, we are proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren and another one on the way!

Well, I have to say, I didn’t realize what a fulfilling life I have had until I had to do this Bio. Sometimes we don’t really take the time to reflect on our lives the way we should.
I was born in NC then my Father was transferred to Hartsville, SC, with CP&L, I was going into the 7th grade. I graduated from Hartsville High School, and then went on to Winthrop College to earn my BS Degree in Education.
After graduating, I moved to Clemson, SC, and commuted daily to teach school in Easley, SC. for a couple of years. Upon leaving Clemson, I moved to Mt. Pleasant, SC, after my ex-husband graduated from Clemson University. I taught middle and elementary school off and on for 17 years in Mt.Pleasant and surrounding areas…..I had the wonderful opportunity to teach at Moultrie Middle School, Sangaree Elementary, Marrington Middle, First Baptist Church School, and Pinewood Preparatory. I was selected as Teacher of the Year in a couple of those schools during my tenure there. I loved my students!
When my Father was transferred to Raleigh with CP&L, I fell in love with this area.
When I relocated to Raleigh and later married my husband, Dan Balcome, we moved away for a short period of time, and then came back and decided to go into real estate as a husband and wife team. I have now been in real estate for 25 years. Over the years, I had the wonderful opportunity to work as a buyer’s agent for some of the top agents in Raleigh. For the last ten years, I worked as a Closing Specialist for a top agent, and I handled the transactions from contract to closing. I have closed many many many millions of dollars of transactions over my 25 years.
I recently joined my brother, Phillip Johnson, at a new and exciting company called eXp Realty. Now, I’m officially a Buyer’s Agent and Lead Coordinator for the Phillip Johnson Group! I’m excited to work with buyers again. I have made so many lifetime friends as a Broker/Realtor, and I love being a part of helping our clients find a place to call home.
I love sports, and that is another reason Raleigh is a special place. All of the ACC competition is so exciting! I played on a county tennis doubles team for a few years as an adult, while living in Mt. Pleasant, and loved it! I also love to play at golf on occasion. Music is also another passion I have. My Father was a huge influence in my life, and his God-given musical talents amazed me. Due to his influence, I love Christian music and was fortunate enough to be part of a wonderful singing group of four called Common Ground when I lived in Mt. Pleasant. We all wrote some original songs, played guitars, and performed at many Christian venues.
Well, I saved the best for last, so I hope you read to the end. My husband, Dan and I, have five wonderful children between us. They are all happily married and have given us twelve adorable grandchildren to love. Wow, I really have been blessed in this lifetime!! I love being called MEMA!!!

I am a Real Estate Professional serving the Triangle area, and I am passionate about helping clients with all of their residential needs. I strive to ensure my client’s experience with buying and selling is a smooth and stress-free process. My clients and fellow brokers have described me as an enthusiastic, proactive professional with strong negotiation skills, while also accentuating how my easy-going personality makes them feel as if they are working with a trusted friend.
I am an Eastern NC native, but I have lived in various parts of the triangle for ten years. I lived in Raleigh for several years prior to moving to Boone, NC, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies/General Business Management (2012). Following graduation, my wife and I returned to the Raleigh area. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife and I have been married for six years, have a two-year-old son, and a golden-doodle. We enjoy grilling out at home, weekend visits to the coast, and taking advantage of all the amazing amenities our community has to offer. Some of our favorites include The Museum of Life and Science, Pullen Park, Knightdale Station (park, food trucks, brewery), North Carolina FC soccer games at Capital Area Soccer Complex, and Marbles Museum.
The personal knowledge I’ve gained as a long-time resident promotes my ability to help individuals and families find a home and community that best fit their requests. My background in renovation and construction is an asset, as I am able to provide my clients with trusted referrals for renovation needs, and am able to assist sellers in preparing their home for the market. Whether you are a first-time or a seasoned buyer, I genuinely look forward to working with you. I pride myself on supporting first-time home buyers every step of the way, from inspections to lender-referrals, to closing.
